If you’re in India or you like Indian spices, there are 5 Indian food items that you must try at least once. Trust me you will try them once and you’ll want them again. Indian cuisine is famous for its spices and flavouring that can tantalize your taste buds all at once. Indian cuisine has a wide variety since every religion and region has its own staple, famous food and every region has its own way of making the very same dish, it can actually give you so much variety that you can’t try out all the Indian dishes in a whole year even if you eat a new Indian dish every day. But some of these are just a must MUST try, you cannot afford to miss these dishes. Here’s a list of 5 dishes that you need to try ASAP.

Masala Dosa

It is a south Indian dish served with sambhar and coconut chutney. Masala Dosa is basically a savoury crepe, filled with cooked potatoes in Indian spices. While there are a number of ways this potato filling can be made, the authentic, south Indian dosa is just delicious beyond explanation. I cannot write without craving for a masala dosa and a bowl of hot sambhar.

Vada Pav

This  is a maharashtrian street food and oh god is it famous! Mumbai is known for its vada pav and Maharashtrians are known for their crazy love for this one street food. Vada pav is basically a fried ball of mashed, flavoured, boiled potatoes put inside a pavv, that is a bun served with garlic chutney. There is nothing like that garlic chutney and the way they traditionally eat it. I remember the first time I tried a vada pav and this person who was supposedly the chef taught me how exactly one should eat it. So you pick the vada pav and just rub it on the chutney which is more like powder, and take a huge bite. The flavours it has, I cannot explain it was sweet, sour, spicy, and just a combination of so many flavours I can imagine but not explain.


I don’t want to get into the whole debate if it is a Pakistani dish or Indian dish, all I know is it is an amazing rice dish associated with the muslims and literally everyone swears by its deliciousness. Layered rice with caramelized onion slices and meat of choice, it is usually made and served around eid and has so many variations according to different regions and everyone literally fights that their biryani is the best. But the fact is, every biryani is the best.

Bhature Channe

Bhature channe is the best punjabi dish for a fancy, heavy brunch. It is a ritual in punjab and delhi to eat bhature channe every sunday and every punjabi will tell you this. Though there is a debate about it being a punjabi dish or delhi staple as most of India connects delhi people to bhatura chana for their love for the dish, it is actually a part of the punjabi cuisine. Bhatura is an Indian bread that is served with chana, which is white chickpea, accompanied with potatoes and pickled onion and green chutney. While the bhatura is soft and fluffy bread with a light flavor of its own, the chana gravy is spicy, authentic indian gravy with traditional indian spices and flavours.

Masala Chai

If you love tea, you need to try the Indian variant of it. Indians love their spices so much that they even put it in their tea and have it religiously twice a day. If an Indian tells you they don’t like tea, they aren’t Indian enough, I don’t make the rules. The masala chai served in India has ginger, tulsi leaves, cardamom green and black, cloves, cinnamon sticks and a pinch of salt other than the normal water, tea leaves, milk and sugar.
